No and yes - the crane is the upgrade of the AK680-2, but it is correct that it is the ex. Tecmaco unit.
The history of the crane goes as follows: Stanley Davies -> Hewden Stuart -> Schmidbauer -> Tecmaco, Argentina (part of Sarens) -> Sarens, Thailand
The AK680-1 is the blue one running by Sarens in the UK - now renamed AK680-3.
I don't know for sure which configuration the crane had at the time of the crash, but since the upgrade consisted of a new superlift mast, my guess is mainboom and derrickmast along with some suspended counterweight.
