hello,

I am looking for pictures of MACK DM600 and DM800 6x4 trucks which were widely used in the field of heavy haulage in the 1970s and 1980s.

I would thank you very much if anyone could put here some pics of these vehicles as well as technical details.

http://www.truck-business.com/stm/REPORTAGES/viewpic.asp?ID=22&L=nl&P=piclib/stmrpt_pic000000222.gif

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jorge; that's an interesting topic, and I think these tractors have been mainly used in Belgium and the Netherlands, as far as I'm aware of.

Wasn't it the big MK 650 of van Driessche that had been pulled by a Mack 6x4 truck?

As soon as my laptop is up running again, I'll know more...(will take a few days)

regards, hendrik

Hi Hendrik,

I do not really know much about MACK trucks in the rest of Europe, but here in Spain lots of companies used MACK DM600 and DM800 6x4 trucks both as fifth-wheel tractors and ballast trucks. On the link of my previous post you can see a DM600 from Alfredo Cordero. This company owns 3 units like this one.
Also Izquierdo owns 10 units of DM800 (I've read that on a magazine from 1996).
Arbegui owns a DM600 (I am not sure of that).
Hipertrans has 1 unit of DM800.
Poncal from Madrid owned 1 unit of DM800 (now for sale).
Celes Internacional was a company based in Bilbao that closed years ago, but they also owned a DM800.
I am sure there are much more Mack DM-series trucks working in Spain... and in the rest of Europe.

Mack DM600 of Alfredo Cordero.

Mack DM800 of Hipertrans (you can see it at the background, on the right)

Very interesting is the offset cab on the DM800. How much was the width of these trucks?? Looking carefully to the Celes' DM800 I dare say that it was 2,75m or even wider.
The offset cab is still used nowadays in Mack DM600 models although they are 2.400mm wide. (Below link to Mack DM600S 6x4 truck with offset cab, PDF file)

I saw several Mack's end of the 80-ies in Belgium (excavator transports, crane transports, etc.), but please do not believe that I took some photographs!!..... :-(

Attached is two scanned pics of the Mack that pulled the Gottwald MK 650 (from "Lastauto-Omnibus-Katalog"). Well, I think it's the MK 650.....not 100% sure.

In this 96 page van Driessche brochure the MK 660 is also mentioned, in this mode as 500 ton capacity. the picture shows the same crane as the MK 600.
At least I cannot see the differences. But another picture shows another MK which is different. I will scan a few more pictures tonight.
They also had a maxilift planned with a ringer and 700 ton capacity.

Hello Hendrik,

sorry but the scanned pic from Kerst shows the Gottwald MK 660. The prime mover is the same but the chassis from the crane are different. And the superstructure from the crane also.

Hi Ralf,

I think you are right!
But the brochure shows this crane as the MK 600. I think the van Driessche guys got the pictures mixed up. The MK 600 has written on the side : "400 ton".
I will make scans tonight.

Zitat:
Ralf Neumann postete the scanned pic from Kerst shows the Gottwald MK 660

D'accord.

What crane do my scanned pics show (post 003)? Whilst I recognise that it's definately not a MK 650 (my fault), it should be the MK 660, too? I'm a bit confused with regard to the different Goldhofer units that carry the rear of the crane.

Hello,
not only in Europe the Mack DM 800 was used. For Example until today in my company(i am not the owner) we are still using two DM 800 for Heavy Hauling. Our Macks (1973 model)have a 350 HP engine and a 5 speed gerbox with an additional four speed Spicer reduction gear. i am using this Trucks with Scheuerle hydraulic trailers. Furthermore i am still using a Mack LJ80 wihich was fabricated in 1954. This is one of the best trucks i have. The engine and the transmission is original DM 800. i will send some pictures to the administrator to edit them to the forum.
if somebody is intressted in more pictures send me a mail.

regards

Picture of a Mack from Wagenborg Nedlift. Somewhere (deep down in my archive) there must be a picture of the same truck in delivery of Van Wezel (which later was added to the Wagenborg group)
