Very interesting project,Jason. And Your scratch building abbilities are simply outstanding. I have one little critizism.A machine of this size would require very much horse power to run the hydraulic pumps. This is one of the main differences between a UHD excavator and a crane. The crane can have a smaller engine, because it "only" has to run the cable drums. A big engine requires very much colling power, especially when this machine would have to work probably almost 24 hours a day at a demo site to be cost efficent. But the radiator grill on Your model is not much bigger than the one on the small Hitachi. Besides from that Your concept looks very well planed and realistic.
Last year around september I had imagined myself what could be the future of demolition equipment and what a huge demo excavator could be based on.And my idea was to stretch a Liebherr R9250 and combine it with the telescopic boom from the LTM 11200 crane. Then replace the boom head by a joint link, add a reduced boom from a LTM 1160,followed by another link plus a 25m straight section. This would be a demo machine that weights more than 500 tons and have a maximum reach of about 180m,being able to take down a sky scraper. I did not plan it any further than this quick photo shop.
I don´t think this is too realistic.Problems would be for example the operater would not be able to see what he actually crushes because he is simply too far away in his cab.And what would happen when parts of the building would fall onto the ground from that height...
Another idea would be to have a whole fleet of autonomous working small robots that would eat the building from inside like ants, radio controlled and monitored from outside the building. This imagination of course would look much less spectacular in model form, but it´s much more realistic than having such a big monster.
I´m glad I´m not a engineer......
btw Have You yet thought about a colour scheme for Your machine? |
