Hello Kim,
do you know, how the upper crane is fixed to the tower during the normal lifting service? Are there any types of wedges to reduce the necessary play between tower and upper crane for the climbing process?
How is the upper crane balanced during the climbing process? Modern cranes with climbing cages below the slewring can luff their boom or use their trolley to get the upper crane in the balanced position for the climbing, but the Elba-Kaiser cranes and also the older Liebherr HB-Cranes (hydralic luffing jib) have to hold the boom in a fixed angel, because the tower element prevent luffing.
